Yes, the difference between 1973 and now is very saddening. I've often heard it said that faith is a gift, but surely we have the choice to respond to that gift or not. I also think you're very right about the influence of TV in Ireland. God bless you too!Maolsheachlannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09406722311993627528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7091756463128804432.post-43546825155480975252017-05-24T23:11:04.119-07:002017-05-24T23:11:04.119-07:00Interesting reflection indeed. On Tuesday evening ...Interesting reflection indeed. On Tuesday evening we held a public Rosary in Waterford at a grotto built in 1973. It was organised by the Legion of Mary as part of 3 public Rosaries at three local grottos. Over 30 people turned up in response to our invitation and it was beautiful.
A few things struck me;
1973 was when Roe vs Wade "legalised" abortion in the US and since then 69 million babies have been slaughtered!
A few of the locals told us that when the grotto was built for a few years every evening in May the Rosary was recited! While the grotto is well kept it is unimaginable that such public devotion would now take place - so sad!
Because in truth we need prayer more than ever in our crazy world.
I was part of the ICBR team that traveled round Ireland in response to the Rosa illegal abortion pill bus tour. The confusion and anger among the young people supporting Rosa is shocking. How have we as a country and a society made up of local communities allowed such confusion to gain ground?
In my opinion we allowed ourselves to be programmed by a TV culture that promotes every manner of deviant sexual behaviour. And that includes Catholics who bought into the contraception narrative. Once people felt that was ok they were no longer faithful.
Abortion is merely the downstream result of completely immoral sexual behaviour.
Because the baby boomers sold out and in most instances separated from the practice of their faith we effectively accepted casual sex, living together with no commitment etc.
And we modelled for our kids a way of life that can only lead to destruction of all values in society.
Faith is a choice and no matter how grievously we have sinned God will forgive us if we turn back to Him. Each person must make that choice and then deepen their faith to point where they are prepared to endure persecution even within their own families!
If we don't all is lost.
God bless each of you in the seeking🙏🙏
Paddy Earlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17285588096698388388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7091756463128804432.post-90793863995951612362017-05-14T15:37:19.008-07:002017-05-14T15:37:19.008-07:00Yeah, well equality is a much abused word these da...Yeah, well equality is a much abused word these days I'd agree. But basically I'm talking about the idea that it is more important to look after each other as part of a community than to be an 'equal' competing individual 'free' of entanglements with all other humans. Anyway, nice post.John Dorneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15316759130724123998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7091756463128804432.post-68854989739368570072017-05-14T06:26:01.262-07:002017-05-14T06:26:01.262-07:00Ha ha ha, no doubt you are right!Ha ha ha, no doubt you are right!Maolsheachlannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09406722311993627528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7091756463128804432.post-56011138611051969672017-05-14T06:25:43.259-07:002017-05-14T06:25:43.259-07:00Thanks for those kind words, John. Regarding equality, it's become such a vexed word I prefer to use words like "solidarity" and "fellow-feeling", but I basically agree.Maolsheachlannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09406722311993627528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7091756463128804432.post-63744359230658765422017-05-14T04:40:33.078-07:002017-05-14T04:40:33.078-07:00looks like a nice church also. Perhaps it's my state of mind but recently I have been thinking more and more that the breakdown of institutions for collective identity and organisation is disastrous for our mental well-being. And that the elevation of money making over everything is in process of destroying everything that makes us human. Orwell himself said that sensible people agreed that you must sacrifice some freedom for more equality.
