...put me in the mood for the cinema. So tonight I went to see
Saving Mr. Banks, the Tom Hanks-starring film which tells the story behind the making of the
Mary Poppins film. It's a lot better than it sounds. It's a solid, adult, bittersweet, well-crafted drama-- the sort of film that's rarely made for a purely grown-up audience-- and it scores a four on my now-famous spreadsheet. And it's a hell of a lot better than
Mary Poppins, whose appeal I could never see. As Dr. Johnson said, not worth going to see, but definitely worth seeing.
