Well, maybe not quite. But journalist Ray Cavanaugh was kind enough to ask me for my opinions when writing this article on the prospects of an Irish pope, for the website Irish America.
Mr. Cavanaugh may have exercised his tact in one passage: the main reason I gave for hoping future popes are drawn from the global South was because prelates from those countries tend to be more orthodox and willing to confront secularism.
An original subject for an article, though; I can't remember the thought of an Irish pope ever even striking me before.
