Since 1975, students from First to Sixth class in Crosshaven Boys' National School have participated in the annual conker competition.
The trophy has been presented to the winner of the competition since 1989 and is named after a pupil, David Geary, who died at a young age.

By coincidence I'd actually read something recently about someone who cheated at conkers by putting metal in the middle. For the life of me I can't remember where I just read the tale.
ReplyDeleteBy an even greater coincidence, I was telling an American friend about this story and describing the game of conkers to him. He didn't know exactly how it was played, but he mentioned this metal-in-the-middle businesses. Which I'd never heard about before!
