Just wanted to say...
ReplyDeleteI can only speak for myself, but I'm happy to read everything you say, but some things are easy to comment on... Church, saints, Dublin, culture wars.... Other things... Poets, your own poems, some deeper philosophies, pop culture... Nothing would flow out of my head if I tried. And yet, paradoxically, without these you'd only be another Catholic blog-none of which I ever read.
I was curious to ask and DartVader, being entertainment, gives me the opportunity - I only heard last week, did you know that they're doing a remake of MONKEY in Japan, or is it just a strange coincidence that you mentioned it recently?
Thanks Séamus! You've actually hit on a subject that I've often thought about. I've wondered if this blog would be more popular if it was more "focused" and on-topic. Very few blogs link to mine and I hardly ever get traffic from Facebook and Twitter. If I focused on current affairs, Church affairs, religious writesr, saints, etc. perhaps it would be more popular.
DeleteAt the same time I do like to go off the beaten track and I like to think those people who do read, value the eccentricity!
As for Monkey Magic, I'm afraid I have no idea. I never even really "got it" when I was a kid.
DeleteThe piece of news I read mentioned that the original was also made in Japan, actually in the 70s, but only shown in the English-speaking world in the 80s. According to what I read it is indeed traditional Japanese folklore dated to the 1500s, that would make sense-I always thought it was Chinese made, but Japanese Buddhist traditions probably have more room for all the other gods. I still a lot was modern fiction though, because they used to have gods or devils with electricity coming out of then like Frankenstein's monster and a few other anachronisms I recall. I'm sure hat I was wrapped enough to watch the remake when it comes though
ReplyDeleteThat last line went totally wrong. I was saying ' I'M NOT SURE THAT I WAS WRAPPED ENOUGH(IN IT) TO WATCH THE REMAKE WHEN IT COMES THOUGH'. One reason ,I remember, that we did watch it was that I had a much older brother who was learning martial arts at the time....
