Mary's Great Amen

(The first in a projected series of hymns based on mysteries of the Rosary.)

An angel came to Nazareth, as Mary prayed alone
He said, “Rejoice, rejoice, your son shall sit on David’s throne.
God’s spirit shall descend on him, and power from the Most High.”
Then our Blessed Mother Mary changed the world with her reply.

She said, “I am the handmaid, the handmaid of the Lord
She said: “Let it be done to me according to your word.”
And all the hope of all the world was given to us then
In the humble town of Nazareth, through Mary’s great Amen.
In the humble town of Nazareth, through Mary’s great Amen.

An angel came to Nazareth, and openly foretold
The wonder only rumoured by the holy men of old.
Who could have guessed, who could have guessed , what God had kept in store?
But Mary boldly spoke, and changed the world for evermore.

  1. I like that a lot. If you could compose a cycle for the whole rosary, it would be some achievement. Keep up the great work!

  3. I hear the same bible verses again and again and again every year and I can become complacent, perhaps that's why I love Pope Benedict's books on Our Lord, different spin and insights. I really like how you put Our Lady in the context of David and the prophesies all along, like a little whisper getting louder. It's quite catechetical really. Well done Maolsheachlann, I hope you run with it and do the whole Rosary.
