The Spirit of Sir Boyle Roche Lives On...

...in the President of the Garda Representative's Assocation John Parker, whose verbal acrobatics were today reported on the RTE website thus:

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, GRA President John Parker said it would have a demoralising effect on rank-and-file gardaí.

He said: "It's once again an extra straw that breaks the camel's back.

"The minister has announced a further cut where there has been no bottom of the barrel to scrape.

"The members of An Garda Síochána at the moment feel as if they're in some sort of a perverse laboratory experiment to see where is that straw that breaks the camel's back."

Oh, and just in case you don't know, Sir Boyle Roche was a member of the Irish House of Commons in the late eighteenth century, to whom are attributed various oratorical gems such as: "The cup of Ireland's woes has been overflowing for centuries, and is not yet half full", and "They will throw our bleeding heads on the table to stare us in the face".
